Confused About SIREG? Here’s How Legal Transition Support Works

Almost every owner we’ve spoken with this week is confused: what they signed, who manages their unit, where the rent goes, and what they’re allowed to do next. You’re not alone, and you don’t have to work it out by yourself.

This page explains, in plain language, how legal transition support works, what it costs, what to have ready, and the latest legal updates. We keep it updated as things change.

⏱️ The short version

  • An independent, licensed Ontario lawyer can review your agreement and circumstances — under your own lawyer–client relationship.
  • Flat fee: $350 + HST per unit, paid directly to the lawyer. Multi-unit pricing may be available, quoted directly by the lawyer. OLH receives none of it.
  • You’re connected through OLH onboarding — if you choose. You may use any lawyer you prefer.
  • OLH steps in only after any required notice has been formally served and its delivery documented.

Questions owners ask

Who is the lawyer?

An independent lawyer licensed in Ontario, working with you under a separate lawyer–client relationship. We share the lawyer’s details with owners during OLH onboarding, when you choose to be connected.

What does it cost?

A flat legal fee of $350 + HST per residential unit, paid directly to the lawyer. Multi-unit pricing may be available and will be quoted directly by the lawyer. OLH receives no part of the fee.350 per unit, depending on whether the units are in the same condominium and have identical SIREG agreements. OLH receives no part of the fee.

Do I have to use this lawyer?

No. You may use any lawyer you prefer. The Law Society of Ontario Referral Service can help you find one. Law Society Referral Service ↗

Can the lawyer tell me whether I can leave my SIREG agreement?

That is exactly the kind of question for a lawyer who has reviewed your agreement and your circumstances. OLH doesn’t advise on SIREG agreements or on ending them, and doesn’t decide whether an agreement can be terminated.

When would OLH start managing my unit?

Only once any required notice has been formally served on SIREG and its delivery and receipt are documented — and always on your instructions and your lawyer’s advice.

Do I have to hire OLH to join the owner meetings or my city’s chat?

No. The owner meetings and the private city chats are free and don’t require you to hire OLH or anyone else.

What should I gather now?

A copy of any notice sent to SIREG, proof of ownership (a current parcel register or deed), your tenant lease and a record of any deposits, and your mortgage and property-tax status. The owner’s checklist has the full list. See the owner’s checklist →
